Being Jeff Murdoch! Part-1

September 12, 2008

Yesterday, I met Saumya, Khare and Mathur after a long long time. In the moments of nostalgia, i remember the amazing addiction all of us had and that was “Coupling”.

Well, I really can’t put the whole storyline here but will definitely try to put a brief synopsis in my next post. As of now have a look at its theme song, which I totally adored. It has been writen by Osvaldo Farres and sung by Lindsay Price.

You won’t admit you love me, and so
How am I ever to know?
You always tell me, “Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps”
A million times I’ve asked you, and then
I ask you over again
You only answer, ‘Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps'”

If you can’t make your mind up
We’ll never get started
And I don’t want to wind up
Being parted, brokenhearted
So if you really love me, say, “Yes”
And please don’t tell me, “Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps”

And to end it,

Atul: I want to be Jeff.

Saumya and Vinod (in chorus): You ARE Jeff!

Thought of the Day: Zindagi jeene ke 4 fundae!

March 14, 2008

In the field of Kurukshetra, when Arjun got disillusioned, Lord Krishna gave him the true knowledge of life. Millions of intellectuals have tried to draw out conclusions out of that great messege to humanity for ages, but all in vain! But Bingo! With the assistance of our great researcher Dr. Jackal, we have extracted the true juices of that great message. Here comes the true knowledge exclusvely for the readers of my blog….

Is being cynical cool?

March 13, 2008

Few days back, I checked the orkut profile of an acquintance. She’s a lady in her early 20’s. Her “about me” section read:

“i hate life.. i hate most ppl in my life.. i hate the way things gen turn out.. i hate the mess food. i hate the mess in my room.. i hate the stpid internals.. i hate ht ecompulsary attendance.. i hate the hostel intime.. i hate the *** canteen.. i hate the hostel cyber.. i hate geogwarts.. i hate u.. i hate me.. i hate myslef for hating so much.”

She might have written all this just like that. But there comes a question, which is based on an observation of mine. Is being cynical getting cooler and cooler day by day?

I am not trying to act as a grandfather but there are certain things that are irking me for a while. People getting cynical about “system”, about families, about love, about academics, about jobs and about life itself! It is considered to be more of a happening thing!

The youth thinking has always been identified with the rebel spirits, but being rebels and being cynicals are at two things poles apart. In the former, you want to change the present situation while in the latter, you just stop believing in it. While former leads to activism, latter leads to total inactivity and isolation from the society! Then what makes being cynical cool?

My chemistry teaher used to say, ” Less knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge.” This newly attained cynicism seems to be a by product of the same state of semi-ignorence. The people, especialy the young ones, do get half of the message. They learn to bash the system but do forget that they are not outsiders to it.

We need to define system here. System is not something divine being gifted by the Almighty. It is the people. People make system the way it is. They are not outside observers but the system itself. So when one blames the system he/she is actually blaming himself/herself.

People get half of the message that to improve something you need to dislike it but they ignore the more time and labour consuming part of the job, that is to work out a method to remove the old and redundent system and bring in the new one. It is the very thing that happened post Rang De Basanti. Everybody got the first half that alcohol is cool, hating system is awesome. Second part which gave a message of change (though very superficial) was totally ignored by one and all!

But, this post is not to preach. It’s to ask people, what makes them cynical. I am cynical about a few things but extending it over my whole life is not something I can dream of! So, please help me out getting an insight of this newewst “in” thing.

On the eve of Valentine’s Day!

February 13, 2008

Here comes one more V Day and contrary to popular belief, I am single. But I can use this chance to narrate a story. This story was the one that established me as a shoor veer in IITK.

For people unfamilier with IITK, girls are as rare as a good length ball from Agarkar or an original tune from Preetam. Some people retire from the place without even talking to a single girl in their four year long stay! So, all the boys know all the girls around though the vice versa is generally not true!

Well, coming back to that day. I was in my 7th semester and had mid semester exam next morning. So I was trying to study in the great PK Kelkar Library in the coveted company of Yadav Ji(Shwetabh Yadav), Hingway (Anand Raveendra) and a friend of Hingway whom I didn’t even know! Well now I know him and he’s called Prasad Chapekar. We all were trying to study as it is very difficult to actually study when you’re Hingway’s company!

Then, She came! “She” was a chic studying in our own beloved department and was 2 years junior to me and was reasonably sexy. As she walked in, as frequently observed in IITK, the whole library rose over the tension of the mid sems and starting appreciating that beautiful creature of the Almighty! Our group always believed in leading from the front. So we forgot the nuances of Civil Engineering and started declaring (to ourselves only) how much we loved her.

As I have got my Ph.D. into proposing the girls, I came out with the best and most striking statemen, “Yehi wo pyaar hai jiski talaash mein main sadiyon se bhatak raha tha” (She’s the one in whose search I was wandering for ages). Hingway got carried away by this statement and asked me to go and propose her. I was shaky and refused outrightly! But then, there started a bullying session with everyone pestering me again and again. They all made me feel that if I couldn’t do that my survival on this planet was of no use. They made me believe that it was the only job I was born to do. This would have served humanity better than any of the anti global warming derives!

Being a social animal I succumbed to the demands of humanity and reached to the girl. Now there are two versions, one that I told to Hingway and group and the other that I really did.

Version One:

I approached her.

Me: Excuse me X (I don’t want to reveal her name, but then if you belong to IITK, you know it), I think I am in love with you!”

She (puzzled) : What?

Me: I said I am in love with you!

She (Confused): Aap aisa kyun keh rahe ho? (Why are you saying so?)

Me: This is something I feel and I am just expressing that!

She: ????

Me: You can say yes, you can say no or you can choose not to give an answer!

She: ????

Me: Do you need more time?

She (relieved): Yes, I need!

Me: Okay! Go ahead, take your time… Bbye!

Version Two:

Me: Hey! Could you please do me a favour?

She: Yes.

Me: You just need to give a surprised look. Theoritically I am proposing you here and you are refusing that. If you want to accept then tell me otherwise just give a shocked and surprised look!

She: Aap aisa kyun kar rahe ho?

Me: Yaar, It’s a bet!

She (giving a surprised look): Is it okay?

Me: Yep! Thanks.

After doing this act of bravery I walked to my seat where I was given a standing ovation by the crowd. Some other people, led by Rakshit, also got to know the whole story and I was hugged, kissed and made the hero! But then, they never got to know the real story!

On the eve of my 22nd Valentine’s Day, I want to assure that girl that she is the only one I have been looking ……..

Thought of the day!

April 12, 2007

Lord only gives a person the burden he is strong enough to handle. Burdens must fall somewhere in the world and if they fall on you it is not just a test but a symbol that the life knows you have the strength to endure them.

Religion could be both the cause and the solution to the problem.

Both of them taken from “Parzaania“, the movie I saw yesterday. Watch it and I bet you would end up praying for Parzaan. I never knew Sarika was such a good actress. And special mention to Pearl Baratwala, the little girl who played the character of Dilshaad. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me pray, she made me think… She made me live the movie!

An Ode to Haryana!

April 6, 2007

Let me have the privilege to dedicate my first post on this blog to a “Hrariyanavi Chhori“. I have been a big time fan of one called Himani Kapoor who topped among the girls in the Zee’s famous Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. She ruled my desktop and my heart for more than a month and that’s very unusual!

But this time the lady is not any star. She was a seedhi- saadi first year ki chhori ( simple first yearite female) who by her shear bad luck, found me in a mood to have some informal introduction. Though, in fourth year it doesn’t give much pleasure talking to any junior as people don’t anymore give the seniors their due respect . But still who can skip the temptation of talking to talk to a good looking female who is supposed to follow all your orders.

That young lady, in the course of talks, asked one of my fellow mates, “How well do you know Haryana?” She was rebuked and ragged by him for asking a question to a senior (which is the worst crime here and what makes it worse is the fact is the poor senior doesn’t happen to know the answer). But such questions motivate me to test and expand my knowledge span a lot. The first thing I did after coming to my room was to get hold of an yearbook and read a whole chapter about Haryana. Then, knowing how amazing my memory is, the idea of starting this blog, dedicated to whatever I read, flashed into my mind. It might be an extremely boring blog for you, but if you are seeking some good coherent information about certain things and places, this is the place you must have been looking for. (Okay, it’s not the place right now, but I’ll make it one in a few weeks, that’s a promise!)

So, here comes my first educative post describing the seventeenth state of Indian republic Haryana.

A big thanks to that young lady for breaking my slumber and making me do something interesting after a real long time!
